This project consisted of creating an extension concept to the Duolingo website or app that would encourage young adults to weave language-learning into their daily routines.
Before coming up with a solution to this problem, I conducted research through surveys, journey maps, and interviews to figure out exactly what young adults would want out of a language-learning app.
Through my research, I found that younger generations enjoy learning but often need a little bit of motivation to learn new subjects on their own. They enjoy gamification, competition, and socializing with friends. My solution to help weave language-learning into young adults' lives includes a mix of those three things.
I decided to add a section to the Duolingo app called "Duolingo with friends". This new addition allow users to start new languages and invite their friends to learn with them. They are able to choose different challenges and see if their friends have completed the challenge each day. This section also includes rankings, and an activity feed that will provide that extra feeling of competition and motivation. To make things a little more fun, I decided to add the feature of customizing the owl avatar on your profile.
Another extra feature I added to the Duolingo app was to add the Apple Watch extension. The Apple Watch extension allows users to see their avatar, view their daily activity, and play simple study games on the go!
With the use of Adobe XD, I was able to create my extension concept for the Duolingo app and for Apple Watch.
